The second series of American paratroopers of the Second World War in 1:32 size. The figures suit a Normandy scene with a hedgerow, a wrecked farm cart and cargo scattered from parachutes.
Responsibility details are not available.
The American airborne divisions dropped thousands of men over Normandy on the night of June 6, 1944, but the dispersion was enormous and the units were still assembling long after daybreak. That is where the interest of airborne scenes comes from: mixed little groups from different regiments, improvised armament, cargo gathered from containers. The jump suit with its large pockets, the helmet with netting and the knife at the calf are the most conspicuous recognition features.
The classics are the Normandy sunken lanes lined with a bank of dense vegetation, the stone wall of a farmstead, a ford across a stream and a shot-up post with a signboard. It is precisely the enclosed space between two banks that gives a scene tension, because the viewer sees only a short stretch of the lane and senses what lies around the corner. A smaller area is enough at that, because an airborne subject does not need a large panorama.
First place the figures dry and look for the direction of their gaze; only then glue the terrain. Parachute canopy can be imitated with a thin handkerchief soaked in thinned glue, which gives the whole an unexpectedly strong focal point. The brown-green jump suit will stand noticeable soiling of the lower parts, because the men waded through hedgerows and marshes. Darken the metal parts of the armament so that they do not shine in the overall view.
On older molds a flash of material sometimes appears in the gaps between the arms and the torso; it is enough to cut it out with a pointed blade and polish the spot. If you plan to enlarge the group, count on the fact that proportions differ between manufacturers and that mixed figures are better placed apart.
