A finished model tree from the German maker HEKI, eighteen centimeters tall. Compared with other broadleaf trees an oak has a massive trunk and a broad spreading crown with an irregular outline, so on a layout it looks like a tree that has stood there longer than everything around it. That is exactly why it suits places where the age of the landscape should show: by a chapel, on a village green, at a crossroads or alone in the middle of a field.
The tree is pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. With a piece this tall, make the hole deeper and fix the trunk in it with a drop of glue, as the heavy crown would otherwise lean. Add grass and low growth under the tree, since bare ground under the crown is conspicuous on a model. Spread the flattened branches carefully with your fingers after unpacking and make sure the outline of the crown stays irregular.
For layout and diorama builders who need a striking tree as a landmark, and for modelers fine-tuning the surroundings of buildings. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
