Foam granulate is a fine porous granulate from which leaf mass is built on a diorama. Its advantage lies in its irregular edge: the crown of a tree or a bush never ends in a straight line, and granulate imitates that by itself. The package holds 200 milliliters of material in a medium green shade, that is in a tone between the shaded depth of a crown and fresh sunlit leaves. It is exactly this middle tone that goes well with both and tends to be the most all-purpose choice if you are building greenery from a single shade.
The qualifier in the name indicates a larger grain size. A coarse grain is visible individually and holds its shape, which is why it belongs on tree crowns, bushes, scrub by roads and on growth that is to read as varied from a distance. For short grass, moss or small areas in a small scale it is unnecessarily pronounced; there, reach for a finer granulate.
Coat the tree armature or the terrain surface with glue and sprinkle the granulate onto it from above between your fingers or through a sieve; with trees it works well to dip the armature into the granulate and tap the excess off afterwards. Let it dry thoroughly and only then tilt the scene and tap the grains that have not caught onto paper. A crown will gain depth if you add a light layer of a paler shade to the sunlit sides. Work over a tray, as a fine grain runs all over the table.
The package holds 200 milliliters of foam granulate. Tree armatures, the glue, a base, other shades of green and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
