A country furnace of gypsum and photo-etch in 1:35 scale, complemented by two resin figures from the ASR Sculpture studio.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masonry furnace used to be the center of the living part of a village house in central and eastern Europe. Bread was baked in it, water was heated and it warmed the whole room. In a diorama it works as an unambiguous indicator of setting and, together with figures, creates a civilian scene that works as a contrast around military equipment.
According to the name the basis is a gypsum casting of the furnace complemented with photo-etch. Two resin figures from the ASR Sculpture studio belong with it. Gypsum carries the three-dimensional texture of masonry and plaster, photo-etch adds the thin metal parts, and resin allows a fine rendering of cloth and of facial features.
Seal the gypsum with a base coat before painting, or the surface will absorb unevenly. The resin parts are not polystyrene, so degrease them before gluing and join them with super glue or a two-part epoxy. The figures are best painted with oil paints or acrylics in layers, while the furnace comes out well with a dry brush and a glaze. Soot around the mouth is created with a black pigment applied dry.
The set suits modelers who are putting together a living interior or a ruin and want civilian figures in the scene straight away. Paints, glue and a diorama base are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
