About product

LCM(3) US Navy 1:144 (Trumpeter)

Injection-molded plastic kit of the American LCM(3) landing craft in 1:144 scale from Trumpeter. It is a small but nicely shaped model with a folding bow ramp, a cargo deck and a wheelhouse. The box contains parts molded in gray and a decal sheet; for the exact contents, follow the enclosed instructions.

The real subject

The LCM(3), that is, Landing Craft Mechanized, was an American amphibious craft of the Second World War meant to carry vehicles and cargo from ships straight onto the shore. It could take a light tank, for instance, or a truck with troops, and the folding bow ramp allowed a quick unloading on the beach. Craft of this type were widely used in the landings in Europe and in the Pacific.

Building and painting tips

The hull is molded as a single piece, so you build the model without any waterline work and set it on a simple display base or in a diorama. Glue with thin cement for plastic and clean up the fine edges of the ramp and the superstructure carefully. Matte gray shades for the deck and the hull, washes in the engraved joints and light rubbing back of the metal edges with pigments suit a convincing wartime look. The small cargo deck can be brought to life with figures or with vehicles from other sets.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of warships and landing craft in 1:144 scale
  • Builders of amphibious landing dioramas
  • Modelers who want a quick and undemanding project
  • Lovers of Second World War naval history

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
