An injection-molded plastic kit of the historic sailing ship of the line HMS Victory in 1:180 scale from the traditional British maker Airfix. The package contains plastic sprues with a well worked out hull, vacuum-formed sails, thread for the rigging and a decal sheet. The hull faithfully captures the carvings on the sides, the bow and the stern, and the open gunports; the kit is one of the classic challenges in modeling, with a higher level of difficulty.
HMS Victory was launched in 1765 and made her name as the flagship of Admiral Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where Napoleon's hope of naval superiority fell, but Nelson himself died as well. To this day she is the oldest ship of the Royal Navy carried on the active list, and she is on display in Portsmouth.
Assemble and carefully sand both halves of the hull, and only then deal with the decks and the superstructure. Bond the plastic with liquid modeling cement. What takes the most patience is the standing and running rigging: follow the plan and work from the top downwards. The model shows to advantage on the stand supplied; small brass or metal accessories are not needed, but more experienced builders are glad to add them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
