1:32 F-8J Crusader is an injection-molded plastic kit of the modernized US Navy carrier fighter from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier fighter in 1:32 scale. The Crusader is a favorite among modelers mainly because of its variable-incidence wing, which lifted above the fuselage during takeoff and landing. At this large scale, that feature can be shown off in full. The manufacturer is Trumpeter.
The Vought F-8 Crusader was a supersonic US Navy carrier-based fighter powered by a J57 turbojet with afterburner. It became known as the last American fighter built around gun armament — four 20 mm cannons were supplemented by short-range guided missiles. The F-8J version was created by rebuilding earlier aircraft: it received a boundary-layer control system for safer carrier landings, a strengthened wing and landing gear, and modernized equipment. In this form, Crusaders were still flying in the final stages of the war in Vietnam and were retired in the 1970s.
The raised wing looks impressive, but the angle must be kept exact and the linkages carefully fitted — test it dry first. Smooth and paint the intake duct in the nose before closing the fuselage. The gray-and-white naval scheme needs a smooth surface; bold squadron markings are easier to manage with decals than with masking. Weather the nozzle and the area around the exhaust with metallic shades, and apply soot sparingly so the model does not look dirty.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
