GBU-62 guided bombs in 1:32 scale

The set captures a bomb fitted with a navigation kit and additional lifting surfaces, thanks to which it flies substantially farther than ordinary guided munitions. The resulting silhouette is distinctive enough that a modeler will not mistake it for anything else. You have to have your own carrying aircraft.

Where the concept comes from

The basis is an ordinary aerial bomb fitted with a rear module with control surfaces and navigation resting on a satellite signal and an inertial unit. The extended version adds a folding wing to that, which opens after release and turns the bomb into a glider. Whereas standard guided munitions are released relatively close, this one covers several tens of kilometers, so the aircraft does not have to enter the reach of air defenses. The concept proved itself well enough that it has appeared on machines of eastern design with the right adapter.

Working the parts

The opened wings are the most exposed part of the whole build, so leave them to be glued last and set the model down carefully afterward. Before gluing, check that both surfaces are at the same angle; asymmetry is immediately visible on a glider. A flat surface is enough, with a fine difference between the body of the bomb and the guidance module.
