A propeller, an R-2800 radial engine and the front cowling for the high-speed P-47M Thunderbolt version. Resin castings in 1:32 scale for the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M version came about for one reason: to catch the V-1 flying bombs and the jets that an ordinary Thunderbolt could not keep up with. It received a more powerful version of the engine with water injection, a modified cowling and a propeller with a different blade shape, thanks to which it passed 700 kilometers per hour in level flight. A little over 130 were built and almost all of them went to a single group, which operated them over Europe in the closing stage of the war; the first weeks of service were dogged by engine trouble that had to be sorted out in the field.
It is exactly that different front end that this set brings. It consists of one propeller, a casting of the powerplant and a cowling with a lip that respects the changed cooling of the M version.
Anyone building a specific machine from a photograph should check the blade shape, because on late Thunderbolts the version differed from one example to another. Working with the castings is routine; it is only worth remembering, when shortening the shaft, that the propeller has to stay in line with the cowling. The aircraft itself is sold separately. It is also worth comparing it with an ordinary version built alongside: the difference in the outline of the cowling and in the width of the blade is far more noticeable on two models side by side than in a photograph.
