Spitfire wheels with a three-spoke hub and weighted tires, 1:32 scale replace the simplified plastic wheels from the kit. It is an accessory, not an aircraft model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin set of main landing gear wheels for a Supermarine Spitfire kit in 1:32 scale. The hub is in the three-spoke version, that is with three ribs on the outer face of the hub. Over its production run the Spitfire saw several types of hubs and tires, and mixing them up is one of the most commonly remarked inaccuracies on finished models, because on display the wheel sits exactly at eye level.
The shape of the hub on the Spitfire changed with the production batch and with the tires that were available. This item is the three-spoke version, and four-spoke and five-spoke variants are offered alongside it as separate items. Which particular Spitfire versions carried which hub is not stated here, so it is sensible to compare photographs of the machine you want to build before buying. The weighted version of the tire means a slight sag where it meets the ground.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water. Cut the casting block off with a saw so that the cut runs clear of the tread and level the surface with wet abrasive paper. When gluing, watch that the sag of the tire points straight down and that both wheels stand at the same angle, otherwise the model visibly limps once it is set down. They are bonded with super glue. Paint the tire in a flat dark gray and the hub according to the scheme; a light dusting of pigment on the lower part of the wheel settles the model into an airfield setting.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
