A figure set from the Reskit brand in 1:32 scale, not an aircraft model. The name gives four figures and the roles of aircraft carrier deck personnel: plane director, aircraft handling officer and the catapult and arresting gear officers. The stated position to the right of the aircraft means the figures are posed for the right-hand side of the machine. A mirrored variant for the left side also comes out, so the two sets can be combined and the model surrounded by personnel on both flanks.
Work on the deck of an aircraft carrier is run by a color code of jerseys that stays readable in the noise and in the dense traffic of launch preparations. Yellow belongs to the people who decide how aircraft move: the plane director guides the machine around the deck with agreed hand signals, the aircraft handling officer is responsible for where the equipment is placed, and the catapult and arresting gear officers run launches and landings. That is exactly why their stances are so pronounced, because the gestures have to be visible tens of meters away. Their gear includes a cranial protective helmet with ear defenders, goggles and an inflatable vest.
Yellow covers less well than other shades, so a light base belongs under it and then thin coats. If you paint the figures, reckon with the deck being a dirty workplace: traces of oil and scuffing on the lower parts of the jersey and on the boots will only help the scene. Four figures give good scope to work with composition, so make the spacing uneven and vary which way each one faces. The set for the right side can moreover be combined with the left-hand variant to create a coherent deck scene around the model.
