An injection-molded plastic kit of the BMD-3 airborne infantry fighting vehicle. The kit is built on five sprues with more than 390 parts, among them a split upper and lower hull, copper cable, a photo-etched part, individual track links and a decal sheet. The finished model is roughly 18 centimeters long. Figures for the crew or the airborne section are not included in the package.
The BMD-3 is a tracked amphibious vehicle developed for the Soviet and later the Russian airborne troops. It follows on from the earlier BMD-1 and BMD-2 but is considerably larger and more robust, and from the outset it was designed to be dropped from a transport aircraft with the crew inside. The main armament is a 30 mm autocannon supplemented by a coaxial machine gun, a grenade launcher and a launcher for anti-tank guided missiles. The light alloy hull keeps the weight down to a figure that airborne equipment can handle, which at the same time means limited armor.
Finish the running gear and the inside of the hull before you close the upper part. Go over the track links once they are joined and remove the flash, so that the run sits on the wheels without tension. Apply the base coat with an airbrush in thin layers, then lighten the surfaces and finally tie them together with a filter. The suspension and the lower hull will take heavy dust and mud, while on the upper surfaces the weathering should stay subtle so that it does not bury the sharp edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
