A canvas cover for the Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D in 1:35, form number 1. Cast resin imitates a cover pulled back over the rear part of the hull of the late half-track.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cast polyurethane part has modeled folds, stitching and the sag of the cloth between the hoops. It is cut to a hull with smooth sloped sides, which belongs to the Ausf. D form. On the older faceted tub it would not seat. The shape is based on the way the cover looked when packed back to the rear, and it assumes you already have the model.
The Ausf. D form came about so that production could be speeded up. The faceted sides and all the vision ports disappeared, the rear was given a straight wall with stowage boxes and the number of welds dropped markedly. It was this version that the Germans produced most of, and it is most often seen in photographs from the last two years of the war, from Kursk to the Ardennes. Besides carriers for infantry, variants with a mortar, an anti-aircraft gun or rocket launchers were built on the same hull, so a modeler meets it very often.
The difference between sheet metal and textile is made by the texture of the surface: leave the cover matte and roughen it lightly, and smooth the metal instead. Let a thin dark shade into the hollows and accentuate the edges with drybrushing. Before the finish, rinse the part in warm water with detergent and let it dry thoroughly. Finally, light dust in the places where it would really settle will help.
No paint or thinner is included.
