A religious building in ruins in 1:35: the Church ruin, a scenic accessory from the brand Royal Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A religious building after a hit, intended as the backdrop of a tableau in 1:35. A church is rewarding in a scene because it brings a different vocabulary of forms from dwelling houses: tall vaulted openings, buttresses and the fragment of a tower legibly change the silhouette of a whole display case. A tall silhouette gives a tableau scale even seen from a distance.
Church towers were the highest point of every settlement, and they therefore became positions for artillery observers. For that reason both sides shelled them as a priority, so a shot-up church is among the most frequent images from the western and the eastern front and from the Italian campaign between 1943 and 1945. Damage to religious buildings tended to be carefully photographed, so you have rich pictorial support for the painting.
Draw the stone moldings around the windows out with a lighter shade, so that seen from a distance they do not sink into the surface. The remains of colored window fills can be suggested with thin clear film underpainted from inside. Darken the interior, add fallen pieces of the roof truss and put finer dust at the altar end than by the entrance. A bell or a fragment of one on the ground is a small thing that every judge at a competition notices.
The accessory arrives without paints and without glazing of the openings; all the effects arise only while the scene is being finished.
