A set of damaged concrete barriers and crash barriers in 1:35 scale. It belongs among accessories for a diorama, so it contains no model of hardware and no base. The damage is cast directly into the parts, so you do not have to break or drill anything. The number of pieces and the material of the castings are stated on the packaging.
Concrete barriers define space, and that is very useful in a diorama. They mark out a checkpoint, separate a roadway from a sidewalk, protect the entrance to a compound or create an improvised obstacle across a street. The damaged version also tells by itself that something happened on the spot, without your having to add further features. It combines well with undamaged barriers, because the contrast of the whole and the broken looks more credible than a field of nothing but smashed pieces.
Concrete is almost never got right with one color. Start with a medium gray base, then spray a lighter tone from above and a darker one into the lower part, so that a vertical transition appears. A light wash follows, which brings out the chips and edges, and a dry brush in an almost white color, which draws the texture of the surface out. The places exposed by a break are fresh, so leave them lighter and less dirty than the body around them. Dark pigment belongs in the cracks, dust down at the ground and, if you like, thin vegetation. Set the barriers into the terrain; a concrete feature never stands cleanly on a surface, there is always a deposit of soil and dirt at its foot.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without terrain. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
