The Demag D 7 is a light German half-track tractor of the Second World War, listed in army designation as the Sd.Kfz. 10. It served mainly for towing light guns and carrying their crews and also became the basis for several superstructures. The version designated 10/5 carried a 2 cm anti-aircraft cannon directly on the bed. It is precisely on a vehicle like this that a model shows a quantity of small sheet-metal elements that injection-molded plastic cannot capture thinly enough in 1:35 scale.
A photo-etched metal fret with accessory parts for a model of this tractor in the Sd.Kfz. 10/5 version in 1:35 scale, intended for the kit from the brand Italeri. Etched metal is thin sheet from which the individual parts are cut out and bent into their final shape along the scored lines. Against plastic it holds a scale thickness everywhere the real subject is sheet too. The exact composition of the fret and the placement of the parts are given by the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface, not by breaking them out with tweezers. Make the bends along the marked scores, best in a bending tool for etched metal or at least against the edge of a steel ruler. Cement for polystyrene has no effect on metal; use cyanoacrylate glue in a small amount applied with the tip of a wire. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and apply a base color, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth metal and will peel off during handling.
For modelers who want to take the detail of military vehicles beyond the kit and do not mind working with small metal parts. It suits a collection of German vehicles as well as a diorama with an anti-aircraft crew. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
