This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale depicts the Soviet off-road truck GAZ-66 with the twin-barrel anti-aircraft cannon ZU-23-2 on the cargo bed, from Eastern Express. It is an older mold with parts in dark plastic; the kit holds cab detail, the basics of the engine and chassis and a decal sheet. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The GAZ-66 is a two-ton truck with four-wheel drive that appeared in the middle of the 1960s and spread into the inventory of the Soviet army and of a number of other states. The twin-barrel 23 mm ZU-23-2 cannon on a light two-wheeled carriage uses the same barrels as the self-propelled Shilka system. The combination of an off-road vehicle and a light anti-aircraft cannon is typical of mobile defense and improvised deployment.
With an older mold, expect to clean the parts up and possibly to fill the seams. Finish the chassis and the cab interior before closing them up. According to the instructions, the side panels of the cargo bed are cut away for the version with the cannon. Use thin plastic cement, paint with an airbrush and bring the surface to life with a wash and dust pigments; a crew is not included in the package.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
