A set of concrete anti-tank barriers in 1:35 scale, designated in the name as type 38. It is an accessory for diorama builders, not a vehicle kit. The package contains neither terrain nor figures. The Hockerhindernis is a row of concrete pyramids sunk into a common foundation, laid across the lines of advance. The barrier is not meant to stop vehicles by impact but to force them to ride up nose first and expose their thinly armored belly, or to deflect them off their line altogether. The elements were built in several rows of increasing height and were supplemented by further obstacles and ditches. A number of these fields have survived to this day and tend to be overgrown with vegetation, which is a rewarding theme for a diorama builder.
Do concrete by layering, not with a single shade. A lighter base, a darker wash into the gaps between the pyramids and a dry brush on the edges will give the surface texture. To keep the row from looking like a plastic molding, mix the shade a touch lighter and darker on individual blocks. Setting it into the base is essential: the foot has to disappear under a deposit of soil, otherwise the whole obstacle looks as if it had been laid on a lawn. Moss, tufts of grass and self-seeded growth between the pyramids add credibility and at the same time mask any gaps. If you are building a scene with vehicles, leave tracks of passage around it and soil dragged up onto the concrete.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a terrain base. Paints, glue and vegetation are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
