An injection-molded plastic kit of the German amphibious car Volkswagen Typ 166 Schwimmwagen in 1:35 scale from Italeri. The model captures the small floating off-road car with its swing-down propeller; as the manufacturer states, the box usually comes with figures and decals for several marking options.
The Schwimmwagen Typ 166 was developed by Ferdinand Porsche's design office as the amphibious counterpart of the Kübelwagen. The car had a watertight tub-shaped body, an air-cooled engine at the rear and, unlike the Kübelwagen, drive to both axles for cross-country going. On water it was driven by a propeller that swung down onto the stern. It was used mainly for reconnaissance and liaison where watercourses often had to be crossed.
This is a military vehicle, so first finish and paint the chassis, the engine and the suspension, and only then close up the tub-shaped body and the interior. Use liquid cement for plastic and lay a primer before painting. Apply the base shade with an airbrush; fidelity comes from emphasizing the detail with a wash and from fine dust, mud and water deposits added with pigments on the underside and around the edge of the tub.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
