The real subject

The Land Rover 88 Series II is a short-wheelbase off-road vehicle which in military as well as civilian form was used in many countries. The interior is simple and open to view, so on a model in 1:35 scale practically the whole crew space stays visible through the open doors and the canvas roof.

What the set contains

Colored three-dimensional elements for the instrument panel, the controls, the seats and other surfaces of the cab. They are printed on a backing decal paper: the part is cut out, soaked for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slid off the paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds reliably on a gloss clear coat. The set also contains printed resin parts, which add the shaped detail that a thin print cannot stand in for on its own.

How to work with the elements

Before applying them, level the surfaces of the kit, degrease them and go over them with a gloss clear coat, for example Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22. Soak the cut-out element for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper into place and press it into the recesses with a rounded tool; on a complex shape a drop of super glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. With the printed resin parts, cut the print supports off with a sharp blade a little way from the part, sand the remainder down and wash and degrease the part before painting; they are bonded with super glue, as ordinary cement for polystyrene has no effect on them.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers who want the cab finished in color without painting small instruments. It shows to greatest effect on a model with the doors open or the roof folded down, when the cab is visible. The package contains the elements of the set only; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
