A photo-etched detail set for the French Char B1 bis tank, 1:35 scale, from the Italian brand Royal Model. Target kit: Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Italian brand Royal Model supplies sets for plastic kits that replace thick injection-molded parts with finer ones. This one is intended for the French Char B1 bis heavy tank and combines photo-etched sheet with resin castings. The plastic model of the tank is not in the package; the set is bought as an accessory to it. Instructions with drawings showing how the individual parts are exchanged are enclosed. The set is intended for the Tamiya kit.
The Char B1 bis was the backbone of the French armored units of 1940. It was unusual in the arrangement of its armament: a short gun of large caliber sat directly in the hull and was aimed by turning the whole vehicle with a fine geared steering unit, while a smaller gun was housed in a one-man turret. Its armor was among the thickest of its day and the machine proved a hard nut to crack in combat. What proved fatal to it was its short range, demanding operation and the way it was deployed, rather than the design itself.
Bend the photo-etched parts in a bending tool or over a straight blade, and never break them with your fingers. Attach the smaller parts with gel super glue, which gives you time to adjust their position. Wash the resin castings first and free them of their casting blocks. Spray the whole model with a primer before painting, otherwise the shade will not hold on metal or on resin.
The delivery contains only the supplementary parts in photo-etch and resin. Obtain the kit of the tank itself, paints and glue separately.
