1:35 Artillery lieutenant, Vitebsk 1943 from Royal Model: a figure of a German artillery officer on the Belarusian sector of the Eastern Front.
Responsibility details are not available.
Vitebsk in the northeast of Belarus gave its name to this figure in 1:35 size, which represents a German artillery lieutenant at the close of 1943. Royal Model lists it as a separate figure suitable for a diorama and for a display plinth; the composition of the package and the material used are not stated here.
Vitebsk lies on the Western Dvina and in 1943 it became one of the strongpoints of the German defense in Belarus. From the autumn the Red Army mounted repeated attacks on it that squeezed the town into a narrow salient. The German command declared it a fortified place that was not to be given up, and the garrison held out there until the summer offensive of 1944. In such a situation an artillery officer spent most of his time at an observation post, from which he directed the fire of batteries deployed several kilometers behind the front.
Artillery had bright red as its branch color, which appeared on the piping of the shoulder straps and the cap. It is a small area, but it gives the figure its identity, so it deserves a clean stroke with a fine brush. Autumn and winter on the Dvina mean muted shades, wet highlights on the boots and the greatcoat, and a lot of gray in the surrounding scene.
The figure comes unassembled and unpainted. Glue and finishing materials have to be added, unless stated otherwise.
