This item is not a helicopter kit but a resin detail set. According to its name it contains two pieces of the M60D machine gun on the mount known as the Sagami, which was used for firing from the door of the UH-1B helicopter. The set thus covers armament that on helicopter models out of the box tends to be rendered only in simplified form, yet is very clearly visible on a finished model. The name specifies the set for the UH-1B kit from Trumpeter.
The M60D is a version of the M60 machine gun adapted for firing from the open doors of aircraft and helicopters. Instead of a shoulder stock it has a pair of grips and is set up for mounting on a pivot, which lets the gunner bring fire to bear quickly over a wide arc. The Bell UH-1B helicopter, nicknamed the Huey, was one of the most widespread machines of its era and its side doors were fitted with exactly this kind of weapon. The accessory is intended for a model in the large 1:35 scale, where the detail of the weapon comes fully into its own.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, otherwise paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and work especially carefully on thin parts such as the barrel. It is bonded with super glue. Before painting, apply filler primer, then matte black or a very dark gray; suggest the metallic look with dry-brushing in a graphite or steel shade. Fit the assembly only once the model is painted, so that it is not damaged during handling.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The helicopter model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
