A combat engineer of armored engineer battalion 124, Vienna 1945 is a 1:35 figure from Royal Model. It captures a German Panzerpionier in the final fighting for the Austrian capital.
Responsibility details are not available.
A single figure in 1:35 scale from the range of the Italian brand Royal Model. The subject is a German armored engineer at the time when the fighting had reached the streets of Vienna itself. The engineer units with armored formations were responsible for barricades, charges, lanes through minefields and the building of temporary crossings, and in built-up areas also for breaking through walls and fighting at close quarters.
The fighting for the Austrian capital took place in the first days of April 1945. Soviet formations reached the city from the south and southwest and the fighting moved into the buildings, the bridges and the embankments of the Danube Canal; the city fell after not quite two weeks. For a modeler it is a subject with an unusual setting: apartment blocks, streetcar tracks and paving instead of the usual Russian steppe or Normandy hedgerow.
The figure comes out well in a narrow space between buildings, where it can be set beside cover around a corner or by a collapsed barricade. Paint a uniform from the end of the war rather grayed and inconsistent: in the final months older and newer items were routinely combined. Dust from crushed brick has a slightly pinkish tone, which suits the boots and the knees better than a neutral gray pigment.
The package contains the figure itself without a finish; the painting and any base are up to the modeler.
