Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from Trumpeter in 1:35 scale captures the German version of the launcher of the Patriot air defense system. The German variant differs from the American one in a fundamental way: the launcher does not sit on a towed semi-trailer but directly on a heavy 15-tonne class cross-country truck with all-wheel drive. The result is a self-propelled launch unit that moves under its own power and deploys in a far shorter time.
Patriot is an American air and missile defense system that has been the backbone of the ground-based air defense of a number of NATO states since the 1980s. Each battery includes a radar, an engagement control station and launchers with missile canisters. The Luftwaffe operates its launchers on the chassis of a heavy military cross-country truck whose design comes from the family of eight-wheeled carriers used for artillery and for logistics. Before firing, the launcher is raised to its launch angle and turned toward the target; on the march it lies folded over the bed.
Assemble the multi-axle chassis on a flat surface so that all the wheels sit down evenly. It is practical to paint the tires and the cab separately and to join them only at the end. Unify the surface with primer, lay the coats on with an airbrush and mask with thin strips of masking tape or with masking putty. Leave the launcher and the missile canisters with sharper edges between the shades and keep the weathering restrained, because modern hardware tends to be well maintained.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
