A supplementary wheel set for a model of the K-4386 wheeled armored vehicle in 1:35 scale. It replaces the wheels from the basic kit and its single, though fundamental, difference is the shape of the tire: the tread is squashed where it meets the road and the sidewall bulges slightly, as matches a standing vehicle at full weight. It is not a model and not a kit, but a part with which a finished model is taken all the way.
A model on perfectly round wheels looks as if it were floating - a viewer's eye notices it even without realizing why. The squashed lower part of the tire gives a vehicle weight and during the build it also helps with standing the model: a flat contact patch is easier to level than the tangential touch of a round wheel. On heavy wheeled equipment, where several tons rest on one axle, the effect is pronounced and it is one of the simplest ways to move a model up a level.
Degrease the wheels before painting; with supplementary parts that goes double. Check that the flat area of the tread really does sit on the surface - stand the model on glass and correct any mismatch by sanding the lower face, not by bending the axle. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, separate the hub from the rubber: a tire is not black but rather a dark gray to gray-brown, and with a dry brush and a lighter shade on the sidewalls it looks noticeably better. Apply dust from the tread upward, so that the transition looks natural; mud belongs above all in the space between the tread and the fender.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
