An early-production Tiger I, vehicle number 121 at Leningrad 1943 in 1:35 scale from Rye Field Model. A plastic kit of the heavy tank.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of the Tiger I heavy tank in the form of the earliest production, released as a particular vehicle with the turret number 121, which served at Leningrad in 1943. Releases devoted to a single vehicle have a concrete advantage for the modeler: the decals, the color scheme and the equipment correspond to a documented subject, so there is no need to look up what goes with what. At the same time this is one of the very first Tigers, because it was on the northern sector of the Eastern Front that the type first appeared in action.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank introduced in 1942. The earliest vehicles differ from the later ones in a number of particulars: they have a different arrangement of the commander's cupola, different exhaust covers, front headlights, a different treatment of the fenders and equipment for fording, which was dropped on the later vehicles. A characteristic feature of the type are the interleaved road wheels, which spread the weight and gave the vehicle a good ride, but complicated maintenance.
Finish and varnish the running gear before you close the hull up. Line the interleaved wheels up dry; fitting them is the most laborious part of the build on a Tiger. Try the tracks dry on the wheels and tension them only once they have dried. Winter service at Leningrad offers the chance of a winter finish, which is applied as a thin coat over the base color and is partly worn away.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
