The reconnaissance Sd. Kfz. 234/1 in 1:35 scale gains, with this photo-etched set, a faithful protective screen over the turret, thin fenders and small ironwork. Target kit: Dragon.
Responsibility details are not available.
The eight-wheeled reconnaissance car with its open turret and 2 cm cannon has plenty of surfaces on a model where plastic loses out to metal: the protective screen over the turret, the fenders, the folding covers and the small brackets. The set from the Italian brand Royal Model offers them as brass pressings which, once bent and glued on, move a kit up a class. The set is intended for the Dragon kit.
Unlike its more heavily armed siblings, this version carried a light weapon in an open turret, protected only by a wire screen against hand grenades. It was worth it: lower weight, a better view and quick fire against soft targets and lightly armored equipment were exactly what reconnaissance needed. The vehicle had an air-cooled diesel engine, drive to all wheels and steerable front and rear axles, thanks to which it could nimbly extract itself from a prepared ambush. Units used it mainly for observation and quick reporting, not for fighting.
Bend the wire screen over the turret slowly and evenly, so that no kinks appear; a round rod as a former helps. Attach the photo-etch with thin cyanoacrylate glue applied on a pin, as any excess is hard to remove. It makes sense to give the open turret an interior as well, because it stays permanently in view.
The set is sold on its own, without the model of the vehicle, without glue and without paints.
