A photo-etched set of side skirts (Schürzen) for a model of the German StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in 1:35 scale from the Italian maker Royal Model. It is not a model but an accessory. The thin metal plates realistically replace thicker plastic skirts and can also be rendered bent, damaged or partly missing, as was common on vehicles in service. The target kit is the one from Tamiya.
Schürzen were thin spaced side armor plates that protected the running gear and the sides of the hull against antitank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition. The StuG III Ausf. G was the most numerous version of this successful German assault gun.
