1:35 SU 76M is a photo-etched set from the Royal Model brand intended for working up a plastic model of the Soviet self-propelled gun.
Responsibility details are not available.
Thin etched sheet replaces the plastic surfaces that injection molding always leaves thicker than they really were. On this machine that shows up mainly on the open fighting compartment, on the fenders and on the small external equipment, where the difference in thickness is visible even to the naked eye. The Royal Model brand supplies the parts on one or several sheets, from which they are cut out gradually as the build proceeds.
The SU-76M was created by lengthening the chassis of the T-70 light tank and was powered by a pair of automobile engines coupled in line. At the front stood a 76.2 mm gun mount derived from a field gun, and at the rear an open casemate. The missing roof gave the crew a view and easy access to the ammunition, but no protection against splinters from above. Even so the machine was built in enormous numbers and accompanied the infantry as far as Berlin, because it was cheap, light and could cope with waterlogged ground.
An open fighting compartment means it will be seen into. Paint the interior therefore before you fit the side walls, and degrease the metal parts with alcohol in advance. Make the bends in one movement, as repeated bending tires the metal out and the part breaks.
