The T-55 is among the most widespread tanks of the second half of the twentieth century. It came about by developing the older T-54 type, it was built in large numbers and it served in many armies for several decades. The main armament is a 100 mm gun, housed in a turret with a characteristic rounded shape. Among other things, the T-55 A version got a protective liner in the fighting compartment that the earlier machines did not have. The addition Model 1981 in the name pins down which production variant the kit captures.
It is a kit in 1:35 scale that you assemble and paint yourself. According to the name it contains a full interior, that is not only the outside of the hull and the turret but the internal equipment as well. Sets like this are built either closed, with the inside only hinted at through open hatches, or with panels opened up and views in, so that the equipment can be seen. Think it over in advance, because the order of the work depends on it. The exact content of the package and the number of parts are given in the instructions of the manufacturer.
A build with a full interior is more demanding on time and on planning than an ordinary kit. It pays to assemble the inside dry, check that the hull seats, and only then glue permanently. Paint the inside and light it up with a dry brush or a wash before you close it, because afterwards you will not get at it. The external finish of a T-55 tends to be a single color, so the result is decided by shading the large areas, bringing the welds out and finally dusting the running gear and the lower hull.
