The real subject

Senior commanders appear on dioramas less often than soldiers in combat, and yet it is exactly they who can give a scene a story. A group of generals over a spread-out map, at the hood of a car or in front of an armored vehicle tells a story on its own, without a single shot. The set is intended for exactly such scenes of the Second World War.

What the set contains

The figures are of injection-molded polystyrene and are supplied on sprues, from which they are nipped off with cutters. They are made up of several parts, usually a separate torso, head and arms, so during the build you have to take care over the correct seating of the head and over making the stance of the figure look natural. A standing figure is about fifty millimeters tall in 1:35 scale.

Building and painting tips

1:35 scale already allows you to work on a face, so it is worth giving it the time. Working from a darker base toward lighter layers gives a face volume better than a flat coat of a single color.

• Fill the seams between the torso and the arms so that no groove is left on the finished figure
• Paint the rank insignia and the buttons with a fine brush once the uniform is finished
• A dark wash draws out the folds of the cloth, and drybrushing pulls out the edges and the rim of the cap
• High boots and leather items will take a light sheen, while the cloth of a uniform should stay flat
• A matte varnish at the end unifies the surface and protects the paint

Who it is for

The set suits building a command scene in 1:35 scale, that is beside a vehicle model, at a table with a map or in an interior. Working with figures in this scale rewards a careful builder, because every detail shows. Paints, glue, a base and scene accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
