An injection-molded plastic kit of the American tank transporter rig of the Second World War. The M19 designation belongs to the pair made up of a heavy tractor and the lowbed semitrailer that goes with it. The hard top cab in the name sets the version with an enclosed sheet metal cab, that is the alternative to the variant with an open cab and a canvas roof. The model is released by I Love Kit in 1:35 scale.
The M19 rig came about because moving tanks under their own power wore out the tracks and the running gear and slowed the advance. The tractor was a three-axle heavy truck with a winch that pulled a vehicle onto the load bed even when it could no longer move by itself. The trailer had a low load bed and a large number of wheels to spread the weight of a tank, and folding ramps at the rear. The rigs served with the US Army as well as with British units and belonged to the part of military logistics without which armored formations would have got nowhere.
On a large rig it is crucial to build the frames of both the tractor and the trailer on a flat surface and to keep checking that all the wheels reach the ground. Prepare the cab with its interior before you close it. The wheels are easier to paint separately and are glued on last. Lighten the olive drab finish on the large areas of the hood and the side panels, and weather the underside of the rig with dust and mud pigments, because that is where it gets dirtiest.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
