A photo-etched set of periscope details for American equipment of the Second World War in 1:35 scale. The thin metal parts replace the thick plastic from a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The periscope was the crew's main way of looking out of an American armored vehicle with the hatches closed. It tended to be set in a hatch or in the roof of the turret, it could be rotated and its surroundings were protected by covers of thin sheet, so that a hit or a knock would not destroy the glass. It was also the place where it showed how carefully a model had been built, because it is a small but clearly visible detail.
The set is photo-etched, that is made up of parts etched into thin metal sheet and joined to the fret by small tabs. It is precisely photo-etch that allows a thickness unattainable with injection-molded plastic, and that is why it suits parts that are made of thin material on the real subject too.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, never break them out, and level the remains of the tab with a file. Make the bends over a sharp edge or in a bending tool, and the etched groove belongs on the inner side of the bend. They are glued with a minute quantity of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a needle. Degrease the sheet before painting and use a primer suitable for metal, otherwise the paint will peel off during handling. It pays to paint the glass of the periscope at the very end.
The set is for modelers who have already worked with photo-etch and want to take a model to a level of detail that stands up to close inspection. The package contains photo-etched parts only; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
