This item is neither a kit nor a paint. It is a stencil from the Spanish brand Vallejo: a sheet with cut-out motifs of period advertising for motorcycles and the services connected with them, through which you apply the paint with an airbrush, a brush or a sponge. The motif suits a gable wall, a sheet metal sign and the doors of a workshop in a scene in 1:35 scale.
Period advertising is the quickest way to tell a viewer where and when a scene takes place without adding a single further model. At the same time it works as a color accent in an otherwise gray backdrop. Compared with glued-on paper or a decal, a sprayed motif has the advantage of sitting right in the surface: corrugated sheet, rough plaster and cracks stay legible and the lettering respects them.
Finish the surface and let it cure. If you want a sheet metal sign, paint a piece of thin sheet or foil with a base color and use the stencil on it. Spray perpendicular, with very thin paint, in several light coats; that way you will prevent it from running under the edge. Do not make the motif fully opaque. What really gives conviction is the aging that follows: fine abrasion of the edges with an abrasive sponge, dots of rust, fading with a light overspray in the tone of the surface, and on a sign also a slight bend of one corner. Clean the stencil immediately after use with the appropriate thinner.
A stencil is an aid for painting. Paints, thinner and diorama material are not included in the package. Ventilate while spraying.
