A standing infantryman with a rifle belongs to the basic stock of every scene from the late phase of the fighting in Europe. This casting in polyurethane resin comes from the Italian brand Royal Model and is listed in 1:35 scale. The same real subject is issued in a larger and a smaller version as well, so a scene can be developed in several sizes.

The grenadier's equipment

What distinguished panzergrenadiers from ordinary infantry was above all their transport: they fought from armored personnel carriers and operated in direct cooperation with tanks. The camouflage garments worn by the units of the Waffen SS differed from the Wehrmacht patterns in their drawing and in being reversible by season, one side being spring and the other autumn. It is exactly that double coloring that makes such figures a rewarding object to paint.

From casting to figure

Clean the mold release agent off the resin in warm water, or the primer will not hold. The weapon tends to be the thinnest part and bends easily; it is straightened by warming in water, not by force. Draw the camouflage pattern only after the shadows of the uniform are finished and mute it afterward with a thin filter, so that the pattern does not jump into the foreground and the figure stays legible. Glue the rifle on after the hands are finished, so that a brush can reach under it.
