1:35 Wood Texture No2 STENCIL

Vallejo 1:35 Wood Texture No2 Stencil — the second wood stencil variant

A stencil with a wood grain motif from the Spanish brand Vallejo, listed in the same range as the variant numbered one. The point of two variants is practical: when a single pattern repeats across one diorama, the eye picks it up quickly. Two stencils alternated between planks give the surface a natural irregularity. The product belongs among the aids for building dioramas — it is not a paint and not a kit.

Use

• Paint the surface in a light wood tone and let it cure fully.
• Lay the stencil along the grain and press it down so that the medium does not creep under.
• Apply the grain in a darker tone, rather dry and in several light coats.
• Alternate this stencil with the first variant so that the pattern does not repeat between planks.

Work tips

Wood grain reads mainly on the edges and in the worn places, not in the middle of a surface. What helps most is to bring out the edges of the planks in a lighter tone once the texture is on and to run a dark wash into the gaps. Old, weathered wood is gray, not brown; brown is fresh timber. If you are building a shed or a fence, give every plank a different ratio of gray to brown and leave some almost without grain — irregularity is the main thing. The stencil can also be used on soft material, for instance on fresh modeling paste or on earth, where it leaves a shallow relief.

Who the stencil is for

• For builders of dioramas who already have the first variant and want to alternate patterns.
• For modelers building larger wooden scenes — fences, jetties, sheds, floors.
• For those who want wood texture even on plastic parts with a smooth surface.

This is an aid for building dioramas, not a kit and not a paint. Paints, washes and pastes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Ventilate when spraying paints and working with pigments.
