A set of landing gear legs for the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in 1:48 scale, in both early and late versions, with wheels featuring load-flattened tires. Designed for the Academy kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American attack aircraft built around a seven-barrel cannon that takes up a large part of the nose. Because of it, the nose landing gear leg is offset to one side of the fuselage centerline, one of the first details a knowledgeable eye will notice on the model. The main landing gear retracts forward into nacelles under the wing, and the wheels remain partly exposed when retracted.
The set brings landing gear legs in both early and late versions, so it can be used for aircraft from different periods of service, plus wheels with tire flattening that matches the weight of a standing aircraft. It is designed for the Academy A-10 kit in 1:48 scale.
The parts are not made of polystyrene, so ordinary plastic cement will not bond them. Use cyanoacrylate glue, and degrease the surfaces before gluing. The flattened part of the tire must face down, toward the ground, on gluing, otherwise the whole effect loses its point. Depending on the aircraft version, choose the matching pair of legs – the two versions are not mixed within a single landing gear.
The set suits modelers building the A-10 in 1:48 scale who want to replace the plastic legs with a more accurate rendition, including more realistic wheel contact. It will especially appeal to those who display the model without a stand, so the aircraft rests on its own landing gear.
The package does not include the kit, paints or glue, unless stated otherwise.
