A replacement radiator part for a model of the Japanese carrier-based dive bomber Aichi D3A2, nicknamed Val, in 1:48 scale. The part is not polystyrene and is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
Responsibility details are not available.
The Aichi D3A was a Japanese carrier-based dive bomber, taken into naval service as the Type 99 and known to the Allies under the nickname Val. You can tell it at a glance by the fixed landing gear with spatted wheels and by the elliptical wing. The D3A2 version was the later one and received a more powerful powerplant, an air-cooled radial engine.
This is a replacement radiator part for a D3A2 model in 1:48 scale. It is fitted in place of the part from the kit, and the point is a sharper shape and finer detail than an injection mold can deliver. Which plastic parts have to be cut away before fitting, and exactly where the replacement goes, is shown in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down so that the mating surface is flat and the part does not stand proud anywhere. Cement for polystyrene will not hold here, so use super glue applied in drops. Wash and degrease the part before painting, otherwise the paint peels easily off the smooth surface. The fine mesh comes out well when a dark wash goes over the base shade and the edges are lightly lightened with a dry brush.
The set is for modelers who build Japanese carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale and want to take the detail beyond the level of the kit. The package holds this accessory only; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
