Barracuda Mk.II SPACE (1:48, Eduard)

An accessory for the cockpit, not an aircraft model. The Eduard SPACE range combines two technologies: a color 3D decal with instrument panels and side panels printed in relief on backing paper, and with it a fret of steel photo-etch with seat belts and small cockpit parts. The 3D decal has a three-dimensional structure and full-color printing, so the instrument panel looks three-dimensional without laborious hand painting; it has no adhesive layer of its own. The set is shaped for the Fairey Barracuda Mk.II kit in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. It is made by the Czech firm Eduard, a leading maker of photo-etch and accessories.

Use and fitting

• Moisten the backing paper under the 3D decal with a sponge and a drop of detergent, lift the element off with tweezers and fix it with white PVA glue; do not use a decal softener, as the chemistry attacks the printed resin.
• Separate the steel belts and small parts with a sharp knife and make the bends over the edge of a rule.
• Glue the steel with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), degreasing the parts beforehand.
• Finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage, as there is no getting at it later.

Who the set is for

For modelers who are building the 1:48 Barracuda from Trumpeter and want to lift the interior quickly and cleanly without hand-painting the dials. Working with steel photo-etch assumes some basic experience and cyanoacrylate glue.

The accessory is supplied unpainted (the 3D decal is printed). The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
