Kinetic 1:48 CF-188A 20 Years of Service RCAF is a plastic kit of the Canadian version of the F/A-18 Hornet fighter in the anniversary scheme marking twenty years of service with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from Kinetic. The CF-188A is the Canadian designation for the single-seat version of the F/A-18 Hornet, which the Canadian armed forces took into service in 1982. This release focuses on the anniversary finish marking twenty years of service of the type, a striking scheme that appeared at the turn of the millennium. The box holds gray-molded sprues, clear parts for the canopy and a photo-etched fret with fine details, complemented by well-printed decals.
Canada chose the Hornet as its main multirole combat aircraft in 1980 and took delivery of the first machines two years later. Compared with the American Hornets the Canadian version has several differences; the best known is the searchlight on the left side of the forward fuselage, used for the night identification of air targets. The CF-188 served in Canadian air defense, carried out tasks within North American defense cooperation and was also deployed overseas. As is the custom with the Royal Canadian Air Force, the twentieth anniversary of service was marked with a specially painted machine.
The cockpit and the nose landing gear bay deserve attention, because they remain clearly visible, so it is worth investing time and possibly an add-on set there. Before joining the fuselage halves, check the fit of the intakes and do not forget the nose weight, otherwise the model will sit back on its tail. Mask the clear parts and paint them only after the base coat is done. The anniversary scheme calls for a smooth, carefully sanded surface and a gloss coat under the decals, otherwise silvering will appear on the large areas. After the decals, seal the surface with another clear coat and only then deal with the final level of gloss and light patina; specially painted machines tend to be well kept, so go easy on the weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
