The Dornier Do 217 was a German twin-engine aircraft from which night fighter versions were developed as well. The J version had radial engines and the N version liquid-cooled ones; both received a solid nose with armament in place of the glazed one. The crew sat together in a roomy cockpit under extensive glazing, so a really large part of the inside is visible on a finished model.
The set brings color cockpit interior parts made as three-dimensional decals. The instrument panel, the side panels, the controls and other parts have real relief, so once applied they stand out above the surface and the dials and labels stay legible without painting with a fine brush. The parts are shaped for the Do 217 kits in 1:48 scale by ICM.
The interior is finished before the fuselage is glued together, so get the set ready right at the start of the build. Paint the surfaces under the parts in the base cockpit shade and degrease them carefully, otherwise the part will not bed down and hold. Sanding the molded instrument relief on the plastic parts flat is a good idea. The application procedure is described in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer, so follow them. With this type it also pays to take care over what is visible from above through the glazing, and to mask the glazing frames before the exterior finish is sprayed. Before applying, check in the instructions whether the parts are self-adhesive; the way they are applied differs from range to range and the instructions for the set state it.
The set is intended for modelers who want to fill the roomy cockpit of a night fighter with legible detail without the laborious painting of tiny instruments and without working with metal parts. The package contains only the sheet with the interior parts. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
