A 3D-printed set for a model of the F-105 Thunderchief in 1:48 scale: intake ducts, landing gear legs, wheel bays and wheels flattened under the weight. Meant for the Hobby Boss kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was an American supersonic fighter-bomber that carried the main burden of strike missions over North Vietnam. It was an exceptionally large single-engine machine with intakes in the wing roots and with rugged landing gear that matched its takeoff weight. It is precisely those parts that are most visible on a finished model.
The set replaces several of the most closely watched parts of a kit at once, with parts made by direct 3D printing.
Carefully lift the parts off the print supports and sand the remains away until the surface is level. Wash them in lukewarm soapy water before painting, so that no print resin residue is left on the surface and the paint holds. Glue the wheels on so that the flattened part of the tire faces the ground, or the whole effect is lost. They are bonded with super glue, because cement for polystyrene does not hold here.
The set is for modelers who want to take the landing gear and the intakes of a large model to a level of detail that production plastic cannot reach. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
