A resin, 3D printed set of exhaust nozzles for the early versions of the twin-engine multirole F-4 Phantom II in 1:48 scale. These are aftermarket replacement parts for the rear end of the model, not an aircraft kit. The set matches the B, C, D and N variants with the corresponding treatment of the J79 engine nozzles and is tailored to one specific plastic kit.

The detail itself

The nozzles are among the most exposed details on the Phantom. 3D printing renders the petals, the ribbing and the inner walls crisply, where molded plastic often blurs them. The early versions had a different treatment than later machines, so it is worth choosing the set according to the version you are building and according to the plastic kit whose geometry the parts follow.

Use and fitting

• Wash the print resin residue off the parts and let them dry.
• Remove the print supports and clean up the mating surfaces, wearing respiratory protection.
• Glue them with cyanoacrylate (super glue).
• Paint the nozzles in metallic and dark shades and add the heat discoloration.
