A photo-etched set of instrument panels for a model of the F-4C or F-4D Phantom II in 1:48 scale. Etch is in its element on instrument panels: it is thin, it holds the sharp edge of the bezels and the instruments, and against a coarser kit part it looks far more believable in a cockpit. The extent of the set and which parts of the cockpit it covers are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The F-4 Phantom II is among the most widespread combat aircraft of the second half of the twentieth century, and the C and D versions served with the US Air Force. Both are two-seaters, so the cockpit has two separate stations and the instrument panel differs between them.
Cut the photo-etched parts out on a hard surface with a sharp blade as close to the part as possible and sand the remaining tab back. Bend them over a straight edge or in an etch bender, always in one movement, so that the place of the bend does not ripple. Degrease them before gluing and do not use cement for polystyrene, which has no effect on etch; reach for superglue or varnish. The kit part under the panel usually only needs sanding flat so that the etch seats and the cockpit can be closed up. The dials are best painted by spraying the whole panel dark and then carefully drawing a light tone out onto the faces and the edges.
It is meant for builders who are finishing a Phantom in 1:48 scale and want the cockpit legible under an open canopy. The work of bending small parts calls for tweezers and patience, but there is nothing to stop a beginner from starting with the instrument panel.
The model of the aircraft, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
