An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from Tamiya depicts the American carrier-based fighter Vought F4U-1A Corsair from the Second World War era. This Tamiya kit is among the most praised renditions of the type at this scale. The package includes plastic parts, clear parts for the glazing, and decals for marking options.
The Corsair is one of the most famous carrier-based fighters of the Second World War, recognizable at a glance by its characteristic gull-wing bend, which let it use a shorter landing gear while still fitting a large propeller. It was powered by a potent Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine. The F4U-1A version brought a raised pilot's seat and a redesigned, better-glazed canopy compared with early aircraft, improving visibility. The US Navy and Marine Corps deployed the Corsair in combat over the Pacific, and it became one of the most successful fighters of its era.
Finish and paint the cockpit and wheel bays before closing the fuselage; glue the gull wing carefully and watch the angle as it dries. Use thin liquid modeling cement on the plastic, and canopy cement on the clear parts. Apply a primer before airbrushing. Naval schemes look their best with panel lines highlighted by a light wash and subtle weathering of exhaust stains and worn areas at the wing root.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
