1:48 Focke-Wulf FW190D-13 is an injection-molded plastic kit of the late version of the German fighter with a V engine, from Hobby Boss.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the so-called long-nose Dora in the D-13 version. Hobby Boss has covered the late inline-engine Fw 190s as a complete group of releases in which every version from the D-9 up has its own box, and the D-13 is one of the rarest forms among them. The 1:48 scale suits the elongated nose and the slender fuselage that make the Dora recognizable at first glance.
The Fw 190 was originally designed around an air-cooled radial engine, but at the end of the war it received the liquid-cooled inverted V12 Jumo 213. Because of it both the nose and the rear of the fuselage grew longer and the silhouette known as the long-nose Dora appeared. The D-13 version belongs to the very end of the development: it carried an engine-mounted cannon firing through the propeller hub and weapons in the wing roots, while the machine guns above the engine were deleted. It was built only in a very small number in the last weeks of the war, which makes it a typical subject for collectors of the late Luftwaffe.
The join of the long engine section to the fuselage is the key spot of the build; it pays to dry-fit it and to fill and sand any gap before painting. Late German camouflage tends to have hard edges, so masking with a roll of putty or with a firm template works well. The mismatched shades of replacement parts and oversprayed areas are a rewarding subject on machines from the end of the war.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
