This Reskit item contains GBU-54 guided bombs in the form with a heat-resistant surface treatment. The name of the item gives four pieces. The parts replace the simplified bombs from the original box or complete stores that a kit does not offer at all.
The abbreviation JDAM denotes a tail kit that turns an unguided bomb into a weapon guided by a satellite signal in combination with an inertial unit. The laser version goes a step further: a laser sensor is added to the nose, thanks to which a target that is moving can be hit as well. The basis of the GBU-54 is a bomb of the 500 pound class, so it is the slimmest of the whole family and fits even on lighter stations.
The silhouette is unmistakable. Angular fins of the JDAM kit at the rear, guide strakes along the body and a cylindrical sensor head at the front. The form with thermal protection moreover has a noticeably flatter and grainier surface, so it is set apart from a smooth finish even at a casual glance into a display case. Anyone building two machines side by side will appreciate the difference.
The tail fins are small and break off easily, so fit them only once the body has been painted. A final flat varnish will unify the shade and bring out the texture of the protective layer.
