Omask O-max set: Heinkel He-219 1:48 (for the Tamiya model)

A masking package from the Czech manufacturer Omask prepared to fit the model of the night fighter Heinkel He-219 in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. It is an accessory, not a model: there are no plastic parts of the aircraft in the package. The cut-outs of the masks follow the shapes of the clear parts of this particular kit exactly, so they fit without any extra trimming.

Why O-max and not just cockpit masks

At Omask the O-max set label means a more comprehensive package than an ordinary set of masks. Besides the self-adhesive masks for the glazing it also contains flexible landing gear bay plugs in foam, which are simply pressed into the bays: no glue, they hold by their own springiness and can be used again. On the He-219, with its extensive cockpit glazing and large main landing gear bays, the set saves a great deal of time and frustration.

Use

• Apply the masks to the cockpit glazing before spraying the primer, and only then lay down the covering color.
• Press the foam plugs into the landing gear bays before you start spraying the undersides; take them out once the paint has dried.
• Remove the masks once the paint has set but before it has hardened fully, to lower the risk of pulling the finish off.
• On night camouflage a thin coat of clear varnish over the edge of the mask helps, as it prevents bleeding under.
• Clean the plugs and keep them for the next build, as they can be used again.

Who the set is for

For modelers building the He-219 in 1:48 from Tamiya who want cleanly unmasked frames on the busy glazing and landing gear bays free of overspray. It will be appreciated especially by anyone who dislikes masking by hand or wants to avoid cutting tape. The set is used only together with the model; on its own it builds nothing.
