A set of replacement wheels for a model of the Il-2 ground attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The tires have the bulge of an aircraft standing under its own weight.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set replaces the main landing gear wheels on a model of the Soviet Il-2 ground attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The weighted designation means the tire is shaped with the flattening that a standing machine has under its own weight. The model then stops looking as if it merely touched the surface and gains a sense of mass. Besides that, separate wheels usually have a finer tread pattern and hub detail than can be held on a part from a split mold.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic models does not work on them; they are glued with super glue. Cut off the excess material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully so that the shape of the contact patch is preserved. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint holds worse on the smooth surface. The manufacturer's instructions give the exact preparation procedure.
Test-fit the wheel in the landing gear leg dry before gluing, because every kit arranges the fork and the axle a little differently. The most important thing is the orientation: the flattened part of the tire has to point at the ground and both wheels need to be seated so that the model stands level and touches the surface at every point. Paint the tire dark gray rather than black; a different shade suits the hub, with the edges lightly accented.
The set is intended for modelers who want to improve the look of the landing gear without touching the rest of the build. The package contains the wheels only, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints and glue are not included.
